Workshop 24/09/11

Exeter Philharmonic Choir in association with English Philharmonia is running a one day workshop exploring the wonderful new music of contemporary composer Chris Williams. It will be led by Graham Wili who is an expert singer and conductor.

There will be two main works:

1. “Tsunami Requiem “which is an intense work of 4 movements for SATB and tells of the devastating tsunami which struck Nagapattinam in South India in 2004. This work received a standing ovation when it was performed in the Royal Festival Hall in 2008 and both singers and audience were visibly moved by the music.
2. A Selection of Carols by Chris Williams, published in 2010 and which received enthusiastic reviews in the BBC Music Magazine and the International Record Review.

Chris Williams won a scholarship to study music at New College, Oxford and then studied composition at the Guildhall School of Music where he won the Royal Philharmonic prize for composition. He has composed many works and locally has had his works performed at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth as well as being Musician in Residence at the Beaford Centre.

Graham Wili is Principal Conductor of English Philharmonia and has a wide experience of conducting major choral works as well as conducting other choirs including appearances at the Royal Festival Hall The workshop will cost £15 for each person and this includes hire of music. Tea and coffee will be available at a small charge. You will need to bring your own lunch. The workshop lasts from 10am to 4pm.

There is limited free parking at The Maynard School where the workshop is being held and also public carparks nearby.
